There is a thought in everyone’s head about how they would like to be buried, but unless you write it down somewhere, like a will, no one knows what it is. So here it is, if I die this is how I would like the proceedings to go.
If I die overseas, no matter where I would like to be repatriated.
If I am to be buried…
First things first NOT CHESHUNT, Edgwarebury preferably but bushy is ok too. The reason for this is I believe a grave is not so much a place where a body is interned but more a place you can sit and talk and its too much of a pain to get to Cheshunt.
Secondly, I know I’m atheist and all but I want a full Jewish service. IDK its just the ones I’ve been to I find them rather comforting.
Thirdly, If I’m not buried on the edge and you’ve caught that rather annoying affliction of ‘Cohenism’ (I know how you feel,) don’t let that stop you coming to the graveside. (if you dont feel you should as a Cohen then don’t but if you have no preference, don’t let a little thing like a surname stop you!)
The grave stone, I’m not too fussed about what’s written on it but I rather like that black marble stuff or something matte black. It also makes it hell’a easier to find the thing.
If I am to be cremated…
I don’t really like cremation services but ignoring that fact I would prefer if it was an all standing service like normal lavoya, I think it confers a better sense of community.
I would like my ashes scattered, not sure where yet, but before we get to that I would like to be interned for four or five years for the same reason I don’t want to be buried at Cheshunt.
That’s all I can really think of at the moment, I’m sure ill think of more later.
I know I’m being rather picky with all of this, but what’s better, have instructions ready and then decide, “OK that one but not that one”, or not have any instructions and have to work it all out for yourself?
